Our Philosophy
Together with our manufacturers and their suppliers, we continually look at ways of reducing our carbon footprint. In Germany, the reduction of carbon emissions has already been an ongoing theme since the 80s. Making sure we re-use heat from kilns for the heating of the buildings, using Green Energy and packing materials which are recycled and recyclable.
We are members of the UK Green Building Council and we fully support their aims.
We try to educate and inform on the benefits of the preservation of our built heritage. Historically we have all been part of a 'throwaway culture', where even substantial capital purchases are expected to have a limited shelf life. 85% of manufactured items quickly become waste. Our message is 'inspiration can be found in the resilience of traditional building materials'.
Ultimately, the beauty of good design is not ecologically irrelevant - we work to save what we love.
Manufacturing
Our products are manufactured according to the quality standard as set out in BS EN 1279. This is independent verification that our products stand the test of time. Our units have been installed for over 25 years in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland and still give the same performance as they did when they were installed.
There are always inferior and cheaper products available, often, without test data to support their claims their lifespan is limited. Unfortunately, there is always an environmental impact when failed units have to be manufactured and transported again.
We believe in durability. You don’t have to take our word for it , which is why we have our thin double glazing products continually tested by a recognised institute to certify that they will retain the insulating gas so essential for the longevity of the unit.
Transport
We have our products manufactured for us in Germany by craftsmen who have been producing insulating glazing for over 30 years. We trust in them and we are confident in our guarantee of quality. We transport the glass, from the factory to site, by road, via a groupage haulier. The distance from the factory to London EC1 is 471 miles. In comparison, Glasgow to London EC1 is 403 miles. We know it’s a few extra miles but our suppliers have a long track record of producing thin double glazing of an excellent standard which can only achieved by paying attention to detail and having rigorous quality control procedures in place. So far we haven’t found anyone better!
Packaging
We only use fully recyclable packaging, most of it being recycled!
